Ferguson Rockslide News
The Ferguson Rockslide Incident is located on the Sierra National Forest in the Merced River Canyon. Field observers remain monitoring the slide mass 24 hours a day and emergency response communications are in place to report any catastrophic movement or river inundation. Geological findings show that the rockslide is actively throwing large rocks. A large-scale movement may occur at any time. Initial recommendations of the Incident Management Team are for continued, accurate monitoring because of concerns for public safety in the canyon. Geologists will continue to advise the Incident Management Team on possible long-term scenarios. Project site: http://www.inciweb.org/incident/news/236/

Fresno, CA - The Ferguson rockslide on Highway 140 has taken on severe proportions which has many geologists fearing that the mountain could come down sooner then expected.
The Ferguson rockslide on Highway 140 has taken on severe proportions prompting a voluntary evacuation for residents who live on the El Portal side of the mountain.
Geologists say that when the mountain does eventually come down, it has the real potential to dam up the Merced river.
Residents who live near the rockslide met at a community meeting Wednesday night to hear more about the possible collapse.
Geologists were unable to offer any specifics to the residents though, claiming that the mountain could fall anytime between now and a hundred years from now.
