Lake McClure and Lake McSwain offer California's best water-oriented recreation areas, whether you like to fish, boat, swim, camp or just want to enjoy picnic at the Lake. Lake McClure and Lake McSwain Recreation Areas are nestled in the scenic Sierra Nevada foothills of Central California where bright sunny skies and pine and oak trees flourish. Located just below the magnificent Yosemite National Park in Mariposa County, these meticulously maintained, multi-feature recreation areas are owned and operated by Merced Irrigation District. Only a short drive from the Central Valley and an easy drive from much of the Bay Area and Sacramento regions, the Lakes are located just east of the City of Modesto in the celebrated Gold Rush County.
Lake McClure and McSwain provide a wide variety of recreational opportunities with yearly base average temperature of about 70 degrees, and an average surface water temperature of 80 degrees . Recreational spots range from 400 to 1,000 feet in elevation, in beautiful pine and oak woodland backgrounds. Summers are dry and warm, with almost no rainfall. Daytime temperatures reach into the 90s and the low 100s, ideal for swimming and boating conditions.
