Springtime Excitement just Minutes from Yosemite
-
Tumbling from the spectacular Yosemite Valley, the Merced River beckons the outdoor lover each spring, while its continuous whitewater challenges even the veteran rafter. Let nature refresh your soul with an explosion of redbud and poppies that color the rugged canyon. It`s no wonder Congress extended the Merced's Wild & Scenic River protection to include the entire whitewater run in 1990. Our starting point is just minutes from the entrance to Yosemite National Park. The Merced is an excellent choice for those who would like to combine their rafting adventure with a visit to the park. At peak snowmelt, the Merced runs high and fast, making the trip a class IV run. Later in the season when the river drops a bit, it become a class III run. Wetsuits may be required. Due to the popularity of this river, dates are limited. Please call early for availability.
Two Day Trips: Red Bud to Lake McClure, Class IV
Enjoy two full days of excitement. Relax and let us take care of you at our beautiful wilderness campsite. On day two, we have the option of running the lower "Quarter Mile" section of the river or the upper stretch again. This decision will be based on your preference and water levels.
One Day Trips: Red Bud to Railroad Flat, Class IV
Explore an entire 18 miles of breathtaking scenery and unforgettable adventure. If the river is running too high, we may be forced to launch just below the Red Bud launch site while still enjoying the vast majority of the rapids that the Merced is famous for.

Merced Grasslands Project
-
One of the largest and most intact vernal pool-grasslands habitats in the world.
The Merced Grasslands, a 125,000-acre swath of biologically rich prairie, support a unique assemblage of native species. The vernal pools, ringed by wildflowers in the spring, harbor a number of rare and endangered species,
such as fairy shrimp and Orcuttia grasses, that are adapted to the annual succession of long wet and dry weather cycles. The pools attract large flocks of wintering waterfowl and shorebirds in the rainy season.
The Merced Grasslands extend over 200 square miles on the eastern edge of the San Joaquin Valley, mainly in eastern Merced County.
